The Art of Layering: Mastering Your Skincare Routine

The Art of Layering: Mastering Your Skincare Routine

The skincare world is currently abuzz with discussions, largely because of the growing emphasis on self-care and overall wellness. While it may seem overwhelming at first, mastering skincare can evolve into a practice that’s actually fun, offering an opportunity  for some TLC into your daily routine.

Layers upon layers. That’s all I’m going to say. How many layers can you add to your skin? Well, it might not be infinite, but there are certainly quite a few. Let’s dive into it:

1. Cleanse:

Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and impurities from your skin. Choose a cleanser that suits your skin type, whether it's a foaming cleanser for oily skin, a cream cleanser for dry skin, or something in between. Learn about different skin types here.

2. Tone (Optional):

Use a toner to balance the pH of your skin and prepare it to better absorb the subsequent skincare products. Look for toners with hydrating or soothing ingredients, depending on your skin's needs.

3. Treatments:

Apply any targeted treatments, such as a serum. Here at Skin Resource we offer a handful that are amazing for hydration and rejuvenation. These are used to address specific skin concerns, typically containing high concentrations of active ingredients.

4. Eye Cream:

Gently pat a small amount of eye cream around the eye area. Eye creams help to hydrate, firm, and brighten the skin around the eyes. These should always be applied before your moisturizer to ensure proper absorption.

5. Moisturizer:

Here’s the glue! Apply a moisturizer to hydrate and seal in all the layers you just applied. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type, whether it's a lightweight gel for oily skin or a rich cream for dry skin. Don't forget to extend the moisturizer down your neck and décolletage for even hydration around your face.

6. Sunscreen (Daytime Routine):

In the morning, make sure to finish off your skincare with a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. Sunscreen should be applied as the final step in your skincare routine and reapplied throughout the day as needed. Remember, sunscreen is queen!

7. Night Cream (Nighttime Routine):

If you have a nighttime skincare routine, apply a night cream or sleeping mask as the final step. These products are formulated to nourish and repair the skin while you sleep, helping you wake up with a refreshed complexion.

This is a masterclass in skincare, but even using a quality cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen is enough to keep your skin healthy day-to-day. Extra creams, serums, and treatments can be used simply as needed or a few times a week to stay ahead.
